Canada is one of the fastest-growing economies and being a border country to the USA, it has much more to offer to people who want to invest in Canada and become permanent residents.
The three main Federal programs for Business visas are Startup Visa, Self-Employed Visa, and PNP Business programs.
STARTUP VISA
The Start-up Visa program is a federal-level immigration program that offers entrepreneurs the opportunity to establish a business in Canada if you have an innovative business idea that can help create job opportunities for Permanent or temporary residents and Canadian citizens in Canada and is able to compete at a global level.
Eligibility Criteria:
- You must have a qualifying business meaning that your business must meet certain conditions mentioned under this program
- Before you can apply under this program, you will have to get a letter of support from a designated organization meaning you will have to find an organization that is designated under this program who is interested in your business idea and if they agree to invest in your business then you can get a letter of support from them.
- You must meet language criteria (minimum CLB level 5 either in English or French in each of the four areas of speaking, writing, listening, reading)
- Provide financial proof that you have enough money to settle in Canada depending on the size of the family
SELF-EMPLOYED
You can apply under this program to become a permanent resident of Canada if you have significant experience in cultural or athletics activities, have performed at global level and if you will commit to make substantial contributions to the cultural programs and athletics in Canada.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Must have minimum 2 years relevant work experience in the last 5 years
- Must be able to meet selection criteria of the program of minimum 35 points based on experience, education, age, language and adaptability
- Should be able to find self-employment
PNP Business Programs
Every province in Canada has different programs under which you can apply as an investor to establish a business and to become a Permanent resident of Canada.

BRITISH COLOMBIA
BC Entrepreneur Immigration Program:
Eligibility Requirement:
- The minimum personal net worth of $6,00,000
- Should have business management or entrepreneurial experience
- Have or have eligibility to get immigration status in Canada
Other criteria:
- Either start a new eligible business or buy an existing business and improve it
- Be able to employ at least one full-time job for a permanent resident or Canadian citizen from the business
MANITOBA
There are two main programs under which you can apply to become a permanent resident if you meet the eligibility criteria :
1. Entrepreneur Pathway 2. Farm -Investor Pathway
Entrepreneur Category
Under this program, Manitoba can recruit and nominate businesses that qualify under the program criteria who can prove that they are willing to live and settle in Manitoba and who is able to purchase or become partners in an existing business or to start a new business within the 24 months after arriving in Canada.
Eligibility Requirement under this program:
- Having at least 3 years of full-time work experience in the last 5 years either as an owner of the business (being a 33% partner/owner in the business or one-third ownership) or having senior management experience
- Minimum of $500000 CAD net worth
- Language requirement of a minimum of CLB 5 either in English or French
- Education: Minimum high school (As per Canadian equivalency )
- Required to have a business plan
- Adaptability
Farm Investor Pathway
This stream is for individuals who have relevant farm experience and funds to invest and who are willing to start a farm business in the rural part of Manitoba. It is important for the applicants under this program to start a farm business in rural Manitoba that will produce products primarily consistent with the Manitoba farm industry standards.
Eligibility Requirement under this program:
- Minimum of three years of experience in the last five years as a farm owner and operating the farm supported by various documents
- Language: there are no minimum criteria, but it is expected that you are able to communicate in English or French
- Minimum $3,00,000
- You will be required to conduct a business research visit
- Adaptability: you must be able to prove that you have valid experience, viable business plan and should have conducted research where you would like to establish business
NEW BRUNSWICK
New Brunswick Entrepreneurial Stream
This program allows business owners or persons with relevant senior business management experience to apply to become permanent resident.
Eligibility Requirement :
- Should have experience in managing a business as a senior manager or an owner
- Prepare a business plan
- Should be able to prove strong ties with New Brunswick or intent to live and settle in NB
- Plan to visit NB to conduct business research
- The minimum net worth of $3,00,000
- Be able to invest at least $21,25,000 CAD
- Should be able to communicate either in English or French
- Should be able to provide CA $75,000 in refundable deposit
Self-employed Business Stream
You could apply under this program as owner-operator of business if you are willing to set up a business in the Northwest Territories. If you have a business plan that offers unique products or any other product that is significant to the economy of Northwest Territories will be given priority.
Eligibility Requirement :
- Should have minimum $300,000 investment to start or buy a new business within the corporate boundaries of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories and also should have minimum personal net worth of $500,000
- (Or) Have a minimum of $150,000 investment to set up or buy a business that is outside of the corporate boundaries of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories and should have at least $250,000 of person net worth
- Should have at least $500,000 personal net worth
- You should also be able to have additional $75,000 to put separately in a trust account which will be released once you sign performance agreement based on business proposal
- Should have sound knowledge of Northwest Territories and the economy of the region
- Should be able to communicate well
- Have relevant work experience in handling the business and have minimum education to be able to implement your business plan successfully
NOVA SCOTIA
Entrepreneur Category
Eligibility Requirement under this program:
- Minimum net worth of $600,000 and a minimum investment of $150,000 and 3 years of work experience is required as an owner of the business or the manager
- Intend to live in Nova Scotia permanently
- Meet minimum language criteria of scoring at least 5 in speaking, listening, reading and writing
INTERNATIONAL GRADUATE ENTREPRENEUR
Eligibility Requirement under this program:
- Have minimum of one year of work experience in managing and owning a business in Nova Scotia
- Intend to live in Nova Scotia permanently
- Have completed at least 2 years of full-time degree or diploma from university or community college in Nova Scotia
- Have a minimum score of CLB 7 in speaking reading, writing and listening in English or French.
- Have a valid post-graduation work-permit
ONTARIO & PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND
ONTARIO BUSINESS CATEGORY
Eligibility Requirement :
- Minimum net worth of $800,000 ($400,000 outside GTA ) ,minimum investment of $600,000 ($200,000 outside GTA )
PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND PNP
Eligibility Requirement :
- Minimum net worth of $600,000
- Must get endorsement by the community
- Must meet minimum criteria of language score of CLB 4 either in English or French
QUEBEC
There are two main programs under which you can apply to become a permanent resident if you meet the eligibility criteria :
1. Quebec Investors 2. Quebec Entrepreneurs
Quebec Investors
Eligibility Requirement under this program:
- Must intend to live in Quebec must be selected by Quebec to apply under this program
- Must have investment of at least $800,000 and have a net worth of minimum 1,600,000.
Quebec Entrepreneurs
Eligibility Requirement under this program:
- Must live in Quebec and must have a minimum net worth of $300,000
SASKATCHEWAN
ENTREPRENEUR FARM CATEGORY
Eligibility Requirement :
- Minimum net worth of $500,000 ( $300,000 for persons under 40 years old ) and make an agreement of cash deposit of $75,000 and at least 3 years of experience of managing a farm
ENTREPRENEUR PROGRAM
Eligibility Requirement :
- Minimum 3 years of managing or owning a business and having a net worth of $500,000
- Should invest in $300,000 in Regina and Saskatoon area and only $200,000 in all other communities
